Appearance
Customize map
Customize map controls your map's storefront layout, dimensions, colour scheme, measurement unit, and pin colours. It's one of three subpages inside Settings > Appearance & Search, alongside Adjust map cards and Modify map location lists.
Accessing customize map
- Go to Apps > Store Locator > Settings > Appearance & Search.
- Select Customize your map.
- Make your changes.
- Click Save.
Fields
- Storefront layout: the overall visual layout of your map. Choose from Legacy, Legacy accessible, six standard layouts, and five Premium layouts.
- Height (px): the map's height in pixels. Required.
- Color scheme: Light or Dark.
- Measurement unit: Kilometers (km) or Miles (mi).
- Hide filters behind toggle: hide the search filters behind a toggle button instead of showing them inline.
- Customer pin color: the color of the pin marking the customer's own location. Choose from Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple, or Black.
- Locations pin color: the color of the pins marking your store locations. Same color choices as Customer pin color.
What the preview can't show you
The live preview inside this page is a simulated map, not a live connection to your storefront. A couple of things won't behave the way they do for real customers:
- My location: the preview always shows the "Use my location" control so you can check its wording and placement, but clicking it doesn't do anything here, not even a mocked result. On-load auto-geolocation is also turned off in the preview. This isn't a bug: the preview runs inside a nested iframe within Shopify's embedded admin, and browsers block permission-based features like live geolocation inside nested iframes, so there's no real device location to show. Test this on your live storefront to see the actual behavior.
- No Google Maps API key: without one saved, the map won't render in the preview at all, and you'll see a warning telling you to add it. Google-powered features like search and finding a location won't work until you do. You can still customize and save every other UI element, layout, colors, wording, pin colors, before adding a key.
- Location inquiries form: the customer-facing template for the location inquiries form can't be edited from the app today. Changing its wording or fields currently requires custom development.
Does this apply to Where to buy?
Only Locations pin color carries over to the Where to buy block's map view. If a location belongs to a location group, its group's pin colour replaces this instead. Every other field on this page only affects the Proxy page and the main store locator app block. Where to buy has its own map size and theme settings in the theme editor.
